The Wild dropped two close games on the road, the Timberwolves lost a preseason game in Iowa, and the Gophers soccer team fell at No. 2 Michigan State. Then it’s a packed weekend for St. Cloud State, Saint John’s and Saint Benedict. Here’s the rundown.

Wild: Two one-goal losses on the road

Tuesday, Oct. 6: Sabres 3, Wild 2 (OT), in Buffalo. Minnesota led 2-0 in the second period on a power-play goal by Danila Yurov and a goal by Maxim Shabanov. Buffalo tied it in the third on goals by Noah Ostlund and Tage Thompson, and Owen Power won it 4:22 into overtime. Jesper Wallstedt made 25 saves.

Thursday, Oct. 8: Lightning 3, Wild 2, in Tampa. Tampa Bay scored twice in the first period, 36 seconds apart, on goals by Anthony Cirelli and John Carlson. Quinn Hughes had a goal and an assist, and Blake Coleman scored on the power play for Minnesota. Carlson added a power-play goal for the Lightning. Wallstedt made 32 saves, and Tampa Bay’s Dennis Hildeby stopped 34 of 36 shots.

Record: 2-1-1. Next: at Florida on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 5 p.m. CT.

Timberwolves: Preseason loss in Ames

Wednesday, Oct. 7: Pacers 123, Timberwolves 112 (preseason), in Ames, Iowa. Anthony Edwards led Minnesota with 19 points in about 19 minutes. Next: preseason game at Miami on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. CT.

Gophers soccer: Shut out at No. 2 Michigan State

Thursday, Oct. 8: Michigan State 4, Minnesota 0, in East Lansing. Kennedy Bell scored twice for the Spartans, and Emerson Sargeant and Ella Janz added goals. Michigan State outshot Minnesota 20-6. Gophers goalkeeper Sarah Martin made a season-high nine saves. Minnesota is 7-4-2 overall and 3-3-1 in the Big Ten. Next: home against No. 6 Ohio State on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 1 p.m. CT in Minneapolis.

Vikings: Back on Sunday

The Vikings didn’t play this week. They visit the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, Oct. 11, at noon CT.
