Both Gophers basketball teams opened their seasons with wins at Williams Arena on Monday, Nov. 2. The men beat North Dakota 85-50, and the No. 17 women pulled away from Harvard in the fourth quarter to win 82-62.
Men: Gophers 85, North Dakota 50
Minnesota led 41-25 at halftime, then scored 18 straight points early in the second half to put the game away in front of 7,222 fans at The Barn.
- Durkin: 16 points, including 4 of 5 from 3-point range.
- Crocker-Johnson: 15 points.
- Asuma: 13 points and 6 assists.
- Kordel: 13 points off the bench.
- Grove: 11 points and 6 assists.
- Shooting: Minnesota shot 54.8% from the field and went 10 of 25 from 3. North Dakota shot 28.8% and made just 3 of 28 from deep. Jayden Moore led the Fighting Hawks with 13 points, and Radojevic added 10.

Women: No. 17 Gophers 82, Harvard 62
This one was close for three quarters. Minnesota led 37-30 at halftime, and Harvard got within 54-52 heading into the fourth. Then the Gophers outscored the Crimson 28-10 in the final quarter in front of 7,185 fans.
- Merkle: 22 points on 10-of-11 shooting, plus 7 rebounds.
- Grocholski: 20 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists.
- Tayla Thomas: 13 points and 10 rebounds.
- Kussow: all 9 of her points in the fourth quarter.
- Harvard: Sam Wills scored 20 on 8-of-8 shooting with four 3-pointers. Olivia Jones added 14 and Karlee White 11.
The Gophers women (1-0) play at Marquette at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, in Milwaukee.
