Winter parking rules are now in effect in St. Cloud. They started Nov. 1 and run through April 1, and they apply from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. whether or not it snows. St. Cloud uses three different sets of rules depending on where you live, so it helps to know which one applies to your street.

1. Odd/even parking (central St. Cloud)

  • On odd-numbered dates (1st, 3rd, 5th and so on), park on the even side of the street between 1 and 7 a.m.
  • On even-numbered dates, park on the odd side of the street.
  • The side is based on house numbers: even house numbers are the even side, odd house numbers are the odd side.
  • Go by the date after midnight. If you park in the evening, use the next day’s date.

2. Seasonal parking ban (outer areas)

In these areas, there is no street parking from 1 to 7 a.m. from Nov. 1 through April 1:

  • North and west of the Sauk River
  • West of the Mississippi River and south of 22nd Street South
  • West of Highway 15
  • North and east of Highway 10
  • East of the Mississippi River and south of Minnesota Boulevard

Parking is allowed at other hours as long as the street has been cleared of snow and ice.

3. St. Cloud State neighborhood

Near St. Cloud State University, follow the posted signs, which apply year-round. They ban parking from 1 to 7 a.m. on either Monday, Wednesday and Friday, or Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Snow emergencies

The city can declare a snow emergency when snow, ice or other conditions make roads hazardous. A snow emergency lasts up to 72 hours. During one, vehicles parked in violation can be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense. Snow emergencies are announced on local radio and on the city’s website.

St. Cloud property owners are also required by city code to clear public sidewalks next to their property after it snows.

Maps and details are on the City of St. Cloud’s Winter Parking Regulations page. Other cities, including Sartell and Sauk Rapids, set their own rules, so check with your city if you live outside St. Cloud.
